DRYWALL FINISHES
LEVELS 1-5
Level 1
A Level 1 drywall finish is generally used in areas that are unseen or not important enough to desire a finished surface, such as a mechanical room, garage or attic storage space.
A single application of drywall compound is embedded in tape at all joints, seams and corner beads. Screw or nail holes a typically left bare.
Level 2
A Level 2 drywall finish requires a second coat of drywall compound over all joints and seams and corner beads and filling in all screws and or nails.
Level 3
A Level 3 drywall finish adds one additional coat of drywall compound, than Level 2. This level is generally adequate for a heavy Popcorn texture, a heavy Knockdown texture or a trowel or brush type texture.
Level 4
A Level 4 finish adds one additional coat of drywall compound than Level 3 and is applied to all joints, seams and corner beads. This level creates a flat background and is adequate for a spray texture such as Splatter , Orange Peel or a light Knockdown.
Level 5
A Level 5 finish adds an additional coat of a thin drywall compound over a Level 4 and is applied to all drywall surfaces, creating a consistent finish throughout.
